Story Setting -
The story takes place in a private library in the early afternoon.
Inspiration -
The library concept and environment were inspired by the short animated film
‘The Flying Books of Morris Lessmore’
Key Elements -
open layout
big windows
balcony
The environment was designed to feel big but have an intimate atmosphere. This was accomplished through the addition of a second floor balcony and lots of large windows. The open layout allowed for light to reach further and made it easier to maneuver the character and camera.
Modeling + Layout
Props such as the mercator globe and spiral staircase were details to call back to old historical private libraries.
Texturing and Lighting
Wood textures dominated this environment but were balanced out with other textures like leather seats, patterned rugs and the marbled floor.
Lighting was used to add more color to the environment and pull focus deeper into the space.
Character Design
Inspiration -
The librarian was inspired by Milo Thatch from Disney’s Atlantis.
